"Enesto Zedillo, former President of Mexico and current Director of the Yale Center , argues that the US economy has a crucial need for migrant workers, and that the current debate must acknowledge this rather than just focus on enforcement. Peter Andreas, Professor of Political Science and International Studies at Brown University, asserts that illegal immigration is spurred on by periods of high demand for labor."
"According to analyses by Zedillo , greater demand for low-wage labor leads to higher illegal immigration". The statistics agree with that fact. Standard of Pour estimated in April 2006 that, in this same year 11 million illegal immigrants was living in USA. The Pew Hispanic Center estimated that in 1990 the immigrant population became to grow faster as 1.9 million in 2006 plus another 1.1 million persons who are undercounted in the published estimates, and then dropped during 2008 to 2010.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) find that from January 2000 to January 2007 the illegal population grew 3.3 million. But the newest DHS estimates represent a change, from January 2007 to January 2008 the ilegal population diminish by 180,000. Future enforcement efforts as well as the state of the economy will likely determine if the current trend continues. There is evidence that the illegal population grow to much in the summer of 2007, while Congress was considering legalizing illegal immigrants. When that legislation do not approve , the illegal population quickly began a to fall. What is clear is that a very long-standing migration pattern has reversed.
